Lykkers, get ready to explore one of southern France’s most captivating coastal treasures. Located at the tip of the Giens Peninsula, Fort du Pradeau—also known as "La Tour Fondue"—offers more than just historic architecture.

It stands as a reimagined space where nature, science, and heritage meet in harmony. Today, it serves as the front door to the stunning Port-Cros National Park.

A Fort with a View and a Purpose

A Rich Past Reimagined

Established in 1634, Fort du Pradeau was designed to protect the western passage between Giens and Porquerolles. The name “La Tour Fondue” derives from the local term for a demolished medieval tower once located here.

Now fully restored and protected as a historical landmark, the site has transformed into a vibrant educational center.

A Full Renovation

After being closed for many years, the fort reopened on November 2, 2022. The restoration preserved the unique character of the site while integrating modern exhibition spaces. The permanent exhibit, Making the Invisible Visible, presents the region’s ecological and cultural diversity in innovative and interactive ways.
