If we are looking for a picture-perfect beach on Nusa Penida, Diamond Beach stands out as a true highlight. Known for its bright white sands, crystal-clear turquoise water, and majestic cliffs draped in lush greenery, this beach feels like stepping into a dream.
It has quickly become a must-visit destination for travelers who want a combination of adventure, beauty, and tranquility all in one place.
Diamond Beach is open to visitors every day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There is a small entrance fee of around 5,000 Indonesian Rupiah (about $0.35 USD) to help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the area. Payment is usually made on-site at the entrance checkpoint near the parking area.
Getting to Diamond Beach requires a bit of planning:
Step 1: Reach Nusa Penida
From Bali's Sanur Port, we can take a fast boat to Nusa Penida. The ride lasts about 40 minutes and costs roughly 150,000 to 200,000 IDR ($10-14 USD). Boats operate regularly from early morning until late afternoon.
Step 2: Travel from Nusa Penida Harbor to Diamond Beach
Upon arrival on the island, we can rent an electric scooter for around 75,000 IDR ($5 USD) per day or hire a private driver for a day tour at prices between 500,000 to 800,000 IDR ($35-$55 USD). The drive to Diamond Beach takes approximately 45 minutes from the harbor.
Step 3: The Final Walk
Once parked, visitors must descend a steep, wooden staircase carved into the cliffside. The stairway has handrails but can be challenging for some, so wear sturdy shoes and take your time.
The ideal time to visit is early in the morning around 7:00 AM or later in the afternoon after 3:00 PM. These times offer cooler weather, fewer crowds, and the best lighting for photography. Midday can get very hot, and the beach tends to be more crowded then.
At Diamond Beach, we can:
- Relax on the powdery white sand and soak up the sun.
- Swim in the clear, blue waters, but always be cautious as waves can be strong.
- Explore hidden caves and unique rock formations nearby.
- Take stunning photos of the cliffs and coastline from the beach and the viewpoint at the top.
- Enjoy the peaceful and less crowded atmosphere compared to more popular Bali beaches.
- Footwear: Wear comfortable, non-slip shoes for the steep walk down and back up.
- Sun Protection: Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat as shade is limited.
- Water & Snacks: Carry enough drinking water and some light snacks since facilities at the beach are minimal.
- Cash: Bring Indonesian Rupiah in cash for entrance fees, food stalls, and transportation as card payments are rare.
- Safety: Avoid swimming during high tide or rough sea conditions. Always pay attention to local warnings.
- Waste: Help keep the beach clean by taking your trash back with you.
To make the most of the day trip, we can also visit:
- Atuh Beach: Just a short drive away, famous for its colorful cliffs and calm waters.
- Thousand Island Viewpoint: Offers breathtaking panoramic views, especially at sunrise.
- Rumah Pohon Treehouse: A unique photo spot near Atuh Beach.
Diamond Beach combines raw natural beauty with adventure, making it a highlight of any Nusa Penida itinerary. With a bit of effort to reach it, we are rewarded with stunning views, peaceful beaches, and unforgettable memories. So, Lykkers, when are we packing our bags to explore this hidden paradise together?
